The Virginia chapter of the Sierra Club honored Del. Kaye Kory (D-Dist. 38) with its Legislative Leader Award Aug. 5 at the George Mason Regional Library.
Kory was recognized for being the patron of House Bill 363, which would have required the State Corporation Commission – the agency that oversees utilities – to take a more active role when overseeing the operation of Virginia’s power plants. The SCC would have had to consider the impact of electricity-generating facilities, which produce carbon dioxide pollution, on the health and welfare of residents.
“Kaye has been a true friend of the environment,” said Richard Ball, the chapter’s Energy chair. “As a delegate she has shown courage and dedication in pushing for clean energy policies, even when those causes are unpopular in Richmond.”
