PROTECTING OUR K - 12 EDUCATION

For the last 10 years it has been my privilege and honor to serve you on the Fairfax School Board. I have gained valuable experience in managing budgets, fiscal responsibility, and the work required to create some of the best schools in America. I will bring this experience with me to Richmond to protect K-12 education.

Protecting Our Environment

The state of our environment, around the world and here in the Commonwealth, is at a crossroads. The successful efforts of the last generation to reduce industrial pollution of our air, water and land must now be joined by changes in our own lifestyles, including in our homes, cars, neighborhoods, congregations, malls, recreation areas and workplaces. The ultimate decision of what kind of world we leave behind for our children and grandchildren is ours to make right now.

1. PROTECTING FUNDING FOR CRUCIAL SENIOR SERVICES

As a member of the Fairfax County School Board, I often had to make impossible decisions as a result of the Republican-controlled General Assembly’s willingness to slash funding for Virginia’s most vulnerable citizens first when times get tough. Now our economic climate is focusing that attention on another susceptible group, senior citizens. The 38th District needs a Delegate who will fight for crucial senior services.

DIALOGUE WITH LOCALITIES AND MORE LOCAL CONTROL

When the Springfield mixing bowl was restructured and rebuilt, it was done without any concern for the interests of the community, and now many people think it was done improperly. When the General Assembly handed down a rule that said all public schools had to display the words “In God We Trust” in the entryways to schools, they did so without concern for how much money such an effort would cost the county or whether the community thought it was a priority.
